Punjabi text to speech — hear your writing read back

Listening catches mistakes that reading misses. Read aloud speaks the text in the writing box sentence by sentence, with pause, speed and voice controls.

  1. Create a free account or sign in.
  2. Write or paste your Punjabi text in the box.
  3. Press Read aloud, then Play.

How Read aloud works

Sign in with a free account, put your text in the writing box and press Read aloud under the punctuation keys. Press Play. The sentence being read is highlighted in the box, so you can follow along. Pause and Resume hold your place; Stop ends the reading. Select part of the text first if you only want that part read.

It uses the voices on your device

The speaking is done by your own phone or computer, not by our servers, so nothing you wrote is sent away to be read. It also means the result depends on the voices installed. Most Android phones include Punjabi and Hindi voices from Google. Windows and Mac computers usually have Hindi; a Punjabi voice may need to be added in the system’s speech or language settings.

If there is no Punjabi voice

Read aloud tells you when your device has no voice for the chosen language, rather than staying silent without explanation. On Android, open Settings → System → Languages → Text-to-speech output, choose Google’s engine and install the Punjabi voice data. On Windows, add Punjabi under Time & language → Speech → Add voices, if your version offers it.

Good uses for it

Proofreading a letter before it goes out: a wrong word is obvious when you hear it. Checking that a speech or an announcement sounds natural at speaking pace. Helping children and learners connect written Gurmukhi with its sound. Letting a family member who finds small print difficult listen to a message instead.

Speed and language

Five speeds from slow to fast are available; slow is useful for learners and for checking spelling by ear. Choose Punjabi, Hindi or English to match the text — a Hindi voice cannot read Gurmukhi, so pick the language the text is written in.

Questions people ask

Is Punjabi text to speech free here?

Yes, with a free account, during the current promotion. Typing and voice typing stay free without an account.

Why is there no sound?

Your device probably has no voice installed for that language, or the media volume is down. The tool shows a note when it cannot find a matching voice.

Can I download the audio as an MP3?

No. The reading is played live by your device; it is not saved as a sound file.

Does the highlighting follow each word?

It follows each sentence. That works on every browser that can read aloud; word-by-word highlighting is not reliable across devices.
