Bol Ke Likho Start writing

Punjabi voice typing on your mobile phone

Your phone is the best microphone you own. Open the site in the browser, speak Punjabi and send the text — no app to install.

  1. Open bolkelikho.com in Chrome on your phone.
  2. Tap Start speaking and allow the microphone.
  3. Tap Copy and paste into WhatsApp or any app.

On an Android phone

Open bolkelikho.com in Chrome. Choose ਪੰਜਾਬੀ, tap Start speaking and tap Allow when Chrome asks for the microphone. Hold the phone as you would for a voice note and speak. When you stop, the text is in the box, ready to correct and copy. For one-tap access, open Chrome’s menu and choose Add to Home screen.

On an iPhone

Safari and the other iPhone browsers do not provide the speech recognition that this site uses on Android, so the Start speaking button may report that voice typing is not available. You can still type, edit, use the punctuation keys and download on an iPhone. We are working on voice typing for iPhone and will say so on this page when it has been tested.

If the microphone does not start

Usually the permission was refused once and the browser remembers. In Chrome, tap the padlock (or the settings icon) next to the address, open Permissions and allow Microphone, then reload the page. Also check that no call or voice recorder is using the microphone at the same time.

Getting cleaner text on a phone

Speak in sentences rather than single words — the recogniser uses the surrounding words to choose spellings. Keep the phone 15–20 cm from your mouth, away from a fan or traffic noise. Say numbers and dates slowly, and read them back before sending; “ਪੰਦਰਾਂ” and “ਪੰਜਾਹ” are easy to confuse in a noisy room.

Sending it

Tap Copy, switch to WhatsApp or Messages and paste. For something longer, download a PDF or a Word-compatible file and attach it. With a free account the draft is also saved, so you can start on the phone and finish on a computer.

Questions people ask

Is there a Bol Ke Likho app?

Not in the app stores yet. The website works in your phone’s browser and can be added to the home screen.

Does voice typing use mobile data?

Yes, a small amount. Speech is recognised by an online service, so an internet connection is needed.

Why does it stop listening after a while?

Phone browsers end speech recognition after a silence to save battery. Tap Start speaking again and carry on; your text stays where it was.

Can I use it for Hindi on my phone too?

Yes. Choose हिन्दी in the same box; the Hindi draft is kept separately from the Punjabi one.
